Bible Quizzing Results

WOW!!! What a fantastic 2 days I had at my 1st Bible Quizzing tournament! I've never experienced anything quite like it before. After traveling 9 LONG hours to get to Vidor, Texas, we found out that we would not be able to quiz the first night because we were about 9th on the list, and it would be too late by the time we had oour chance to quiz. At first I was a little disappointed, but I felt as though God had everything in control, and I soon found out that He certainly did.

The first team we played on Saturday was Hillsboro, and we narrowly lost that game but won the next 4. These games were nail-biting and so exciting! Our kids did a FANTASTIC job, and I'm very proud of them!! Out of 29 teams, Wichita Falls placed 5th place. We won a beautiful trophy, which we proudly presented to our wonderful pastor (and church).

I can't begin to tell you what this ministry means to me, and I'm beyond excited to be a coach for our Jr. team. Please keep thes kids in your prayers because they have A LOT of scriptures to memorize before our next tournament, which is in February. We, then, will be traveling to Longview, Texas to compete. Who knows.....we may even place 1st!!

Bible Quizzing

Well.....tomorrow is it! We travel to Vidor, Texas for our 1st quiz tournamnet, and I am soooo excited! The Bible Quiz team, Bro. & Sis. Isom (our fearless leaders), Judy Kurani, Jessica Bennett, Heather Gallentine, and myself have worked very hard in preparing our kiddos for the match. We have an awesome group of kids going, and they are armed and prepared with the word of God tucked away in their hearts. We have Ryan Isom and Abigail Bowen representing the beginner team and Haiden Isom, Imran Kurani, Breanna Fobbs, and Howie Bryant representing the junior team. Please pray for ALL of us that we have a safe trip and we WIN!!!

Sunday School Lessons in an English Class

This past week we've been reading an incredible novel entitled, Night. The author, Elie Wiesel, beautifully describes his encounters as a Jewish prisoner in a German concentration camp, so basically the novel is about the Holocaust, in which MANY Jewish people suffered and lost their lives needlessly!!

I was surprised to see that many of my 7th graders had never heard about the Holocaust, so it made teaching about it a lot more exciting. In several places the author referred to the passover, so I asked my kids if anyone knew what the passover was, and no one did! I quickly explained to them that it's a celebration that the Jewish people observe because of when the Israelites were free from Egyptian bondage many years ago. Yes...you guessed it. They had no clue of what I was talking about. So.......I incorporated a little Sunday School lesson and told them the old story that we're so familiar with: Moses and the Red Sea experience. They were fascinated and asked many questions.

Later on the author compared himself and the Jews to the Bible character, Job. I asked them if anyone knew the story about Job, and only 1 student knew the story. Well, since I haven't been fired yet, I told them another Bible story about Job.

It broke my heart to see many students no nothing about Jesus and His word!!! I'm very thankful that God gave me this opportunity to share with them what I've known all my life. Once again, please pray for our students and for me that I can be a witness to them!

What a Day!

Whew, am I tired!!! Today we started back to school after being off for 2 weeks, and it was soooo hard getting back in the swing of things! There's so much to do this semester, and on top of that.....I'm mentoring a new teacher! He's a very nice young man, and I think he'll make a great teacher.

I'm writing this new post now while I'm able to get my second wind because at 6:00 I have Bible quizzing, followed by prayer meeting at 7:00, and choir practice at 7:30!!! Oh well.... that's life, and it sure is fun working for the Lord!! Have a great week.
